By Michael Olugbode in Maiduguri
No fewer than 23 persons were killed in multiple suicide attacks on Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Tuesday, the state police Commissioner, Damien Chukwu, revealed on Wednesday.
Chukwu said out of the 23 that were killed, seven were civilians, 12 were members of the Civilian JTF, while the remaining four were the suicide bombers.
The commissioner, who briefed journalists at one of the scenes of the multiple attacks, lamented that 23 other persons were injured in the attacks.
He noted that most of the victims were members of the Civilian JTF who had been working in conjunction with military and security agencies to ensure security in the troubled North-east, the birthplace of Boko Haram.
Chukwu said: “Twelve Civilian JTF members were killed in all the attacks and the rest were civilian victims.”
