No fewer than 170 Nigeria Certificate of Education (NCE) students of the National Teachers Institute (NTI), Kaduna, have benefited from the UK- based British – Nigeria Educational Trust (BNET) in the last 10 years.

The Director-General and Chief Executive of the institute, Prof. Garba Dahuwa Azare disclosed this, recently, during a visit of the BNET team to the institute. Azare who was represented by the Director, Field Operations and Students’ Services (FOSS), Dr. Dele Yaya, commended BNET for contributing to the development of education in the country through financial support.

He said BNET, being a philanthropic organisation had within the past 10 years, supported the institute by awarding scholarship to the best NCE students, adding, “ the scholarship tagged ‘Teachers Award’, was offered to students with best Grade Point Average (GPA) in the second semester from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) who enrolled in the Distance Learning Studies(DLS) programme by offering each beneficiary N47,500 for his/her expenses.”

He appealed to BNET to extend the scholarship to students of the institute undergoing Bachelor’s degree programme as well.
In his remarks, the BNET team leader, Mr. David Brandler said the scholarship award will henceforth be called ‘Gary Clark Memorial Award’ in memory of the late secretary of BNET who passed on earlir in the year and that it would be reviewed upwards, with a view to extending it to those pursuing degree programmes at the institute.
