Death Toll Rises to 13 in Suleja Flood

The death toll in last Sunday’s flood that hit Suleja town in Niger State has risen from 11 to 13.

Among the dead were a house wife, her six children, and a good Samaritan who tried to rescue some children from the flood.

THISDAY gathered that four other people have been declared missing by their families.

Several electric poles and not less than seven houses were destroyed as a result of the flood due to a five-hour rainfall.

It is learnt that four victims are now lying unconscious at the Suleja General Hospital though the medical personnel have said there is a 50:50 chance of survival.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) on Monday began the search for more victims of the flood but as at press time, no new corpse was recovered.

The Director General of NSEMA Ibrahim Inga said the search team would move to Tafa Local Government area where flood also caused massive disaster on Sunday.
