World of Dance Lands Renewal at NBC

The new reality show that has apparently surpassed expectations of critics is going nowhere as NBCrecently renewed it for a second season.

The series is the first big launch of an ambitious new slate of in-house reality efforts. This is big news for the woman behind the concept, Jennifer Lopez

“I am so proud to not only star, but produce a show that is so close to my heart,'” Lopez said in a statement. “I am so happy that World of Dance has resonated with audiences and we are able to put dancers on the pedestal they deserve. I cannot wait to continue this journey and my partnership with NBC.”

With just four episodes in since its premiere in May, World of Dance’s most current ratings have it averaging a 2.8 rating among adults 18-49 and 11.0 million viewers according to The Hollywood Reporter. The media outlet reported that the show is better than any other 10 pm. series from the regular broadcast season and it’s the best Big Four summer launch since 2013 CBS drama breakout Under the Dome, aided by the strong performance from lead-in America’s Got Talent.

“We are thrilled that the unrivalled athleticism and authenticity that inspired us to create World of Dance has been embraced by both the dance community and our viewers,” said Universal Television Alternative Studio president Meredith Ahr. “The amazing dancers competing this season have proven to not only entertain us but elevate our expectations and expand our imagination. The bar has been set extremely high for season two. The competition will be fierce and we will all witness greatness.”
