The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has bestowed a merit award on the senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Aliyu Wamakko.
The award was presented to Senator Wamakko in Abuja on Tuesday by the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, on behalf of the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
In a statement signed by Wamakko’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani, in Sokoto Wednesday, the award was presented to  the former governor of Sokoto State, who was among several other recipients by the agency at a ceremony at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
“The award was bestowed on Senator Wamakko, who is also the Chairman, Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, for his invaluable  contributions to the fight against illicit drugs trafficking when he was the Governor of Sokoto State, between 2007 and 2015,” the statement read.
Wamakko commended the agency for the honour, saying it will spur him to do more to tame the drugs menace in the state and Nigeria in general.
Wamakko had three years ago, constructed an ultra-modern, multimillion naira rehabilitation centre for the state command of the NDLEA apart from myriad of other logistics support.
