Council Workers Stage Rally over Ugwuanyi’s Utilisation of Paris Fund

Hundreds of local government workers under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Enugu state chapter weekend literally grounded business activities in University town of Nsukka as they embarked on solidarity rally in support of the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

They also used the opportunity to express appreciation to the governor for the judicious utilisation of Paris Club refund in payment of salaries of council workers and pension of retirees.

NULGE members from the 17 local government areas of the state numbering more than 5,000 gathered at Government Field Nsukka, from where they marched round the university town singing praises of the governor.

The State President of NULGE in the state, Comrade Kenneth Emeka Ugwueze told journalists that NULGE members were celebrating their ‘ebullient and amiable governor, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Gburugburu) for his landmark achievements”.

He noted that the solidarity rally tagged, “NULGE for good governance” was also in appreciation of Governor Ugwuanyi’s overall good governance in the state.

The President listed some of the achievements of the governor to include; payment of outstanding salaries owed to local government staff in the state, approved payments of leave allowances and other entitlements owed to the local government staff, implementation of the new scheme of service, and aggressive infrastructural development in the state.

Others are; security stability in both the urban and rural areas, quality health care delivery, reinstatement of Comrade Eugene Ugwu, erstwhile NULGE President into Local Government Service, and successful conduct of biometric capturing of LG workers/pensioners to ensure regular/prompt payment of salaries.

The NULGE President also described the governor as the most worker friendly governor in the history of the state, and commended him for the transparent /judicious application of the state’s scarce resources, as well as transformation of the education sector and massive agricultural development.
