Melaye’s Recall: Electorate Task INEC on Neutrality

By Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja

Some electorate from Kogi West senatorial district in Kogi State have asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to take sides in the ongoing move to recall the senator representing the area, Dino Melaye.

They said they suspect a possible INEC’s complicity in the plot to recall Melaye.

The group under the aegis of Concerned Kogi West Registered Voters, at a press conference Friday in Abuja, said the decision by the electoral body to go ahead with the recall in defiance of the cases in the courts amounts to prejudice.

The leader of the group‎, Gabriel Sunday Olowosayo, said: “They had gone to court to challenge the forgery of their signatures in a desperate attempt to recall Senator Dino Melaye.‎”

Olowosayo further noted that there were‎ gross violation and several breaches of the Electoral Act and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by ‎those calling for Melaye’s recall, which was the reason they went to court.
