‘Women Dignity Should Be Preserved through Entrepreneurship

The Coordinator of the African Women in Leadership Organisation (AWLO), Abuja Chapter, Mrs. Doris Nkiruka Bombata has said the dignity of young women should be preserved against threats of compromise by engaging them in creative entrepreneurship and training.

Speaking at its annual African Women in Leadership Conference and the launch of Abuja chapter of the organisation, Bombata said that the young women who constitute the immediate core of the next generation of female leaders were indeed the unemployed graduates and young women walking the streets and trying their hands on menial jobs for sustenance.

She said: “This desperate act exposes the dignity and worth of young women. These women, our future generation must be preserved from threat of compromise by creative entrepreneurship and training to develop their characters by laying leadership foundations from infancy to adolescence.”

Bombata said that the “next generation female leaders are the young girls and young women in their various conditions in our tough world and economy of today.”

AWLO was established nine years ago as a non-profit organisation with membership of women leaders from all spheres of life across the African continent and the diaspora.

Founder of AWLO, Hon. Elisha Attai said the organisation aims to see a continent where women take their rightful place as home and nation builders with equal opportunities and equal access in all areas of existence, drawing strength from the Gender equality bill.

She said AWLO Youth Council is a generative and proactive platform that not only seeks to improve the performance of women in leadership but also anticipate and address issues that will give Africa and the world at large, the “very best from women leaders of tomorrow.”

“I encourage us all here present, in acknowledging our role in supporting humanity; to make the world a better place by investing in our youths in whatever capacity we find ourselves,” she said.
