Niger Gov Accuses Security Agencies of Failing in Discharge of Duties

By Laleye Dipo in Minna

The Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, in Minna on Tuesday came down heavily on the country’s security agencies, saying they have failed in the discharge of their duties.
Bello, who made the remarks when he received top traditional rulers from the state who paid him the traditional Sallah homage at the Government House, said this was despite the huge investments in the security agencies.
“We spend a lot of money on security but we do not have a safe environment. In Niger State we spend N100 million every month on security, I am sure if we spend a fraction of this money on traditional rulers we will get better result than we have now.
“Our security agencies have failed in making the nation and states safer as crime seems to have come to stay in the country.
“We are beginning to lose it as a people, and a state. In the past nobody gets away with murder or kidnapping or crime but these days, kidnappers and criminal kingpins walk the streets freely. As a governor, I am becoming afraid because I do not know who to trust or who to talk to.”
