Former Senate President, Senator David Mark, has taken stock of the unfolding sectional agitation calling for a break up of Nigeria and reminded promoters of the divisive agenda of the consequences of a fragmented nation.
A worried Mark cautioned the agitators of a possible break up of Nigeria to think otherwise “because the trend today is that nations are coming together and bridging gaps of differences for mutual cooperation under a new world order of globalization for a better society. Nigeria is part of the global community.â€
The former senate president in a goodwill message to Nigerians marking this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration urged Muslim faithful to imbibe the lessons of the Holy month of Ramadan and continue to pray for peace, unity and stability of Nigeria.
He cautioned those stirring up the embers of disunity, anarchy and confusion to desist from doing so and concentrate their efforts toward building a more stable, prosperous and united Nigeria stressing that “we have more to gain staying together than falling apart.â€
Mark warned that the consequences of another civil war for the country will be devastating and catastrophic not only for Nigeria but for the entire African Continent.
He acknowledged that there may be shortcomings in our system but expressed optimism that they can be addressed amicably through all legitimate channels without resorting to the extreme.
Mark appealed to all our religious, traditional and political leaders across the country to restrain their followers and youths from making inflammatory statements capable of plunging the country into chaos. Ramadan: Akpabio Urges Continuation of Tenets
Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, has congratulated Islamic faithful and Nigerians on the successful completion of Ramadan fast, just as he charged them never to deviate from lessons learnt during the period. Akpabio whose goodwill message was contained in a release by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, urged Muslims to close ranks and work for the peace, unity and development of the country. “Muslim faithful should not forget the very tenets of the religion, which are love, obedience and perseverance,†as they celebrate the end of the Ramadan fast.
Pray for Peace and Unity, Says Gbenga Daniel
Former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, has congratulated Muslims on the celebration of the Eid-el-Fitri marking the end of the 30-day fasting period charging them to renew their faith in Allah and pray for peace and unity in the country.
Daniel, in a goodwill message signed by his Media Officer, Ayo Giwa, said: “Muslims should be guided by the spirit of the period of total abstinence, keeping away from vices in all ramifications and imbibing the teachings and pious lifestyles of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.â€
Also, the former governor urged Muslim faithful in the country to uphold the lessons of the Holy Month by avoiding all sinful acts that were abhorred and not allow them to become part of their lives after Ramadan.
Obi Felicitates with Muslims
Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has felicitated with Muslims as they celebrate the 2017 Eid-el-Fitri festival, reminding them about the spiritual message which this solemn feast signifies for the entire human society.
Obi said: “The successful conclusion of the Ramadan fast, upon which the Eid-el-Fitri festivity rests, is an apt reminder that human society must be imbued with those values that lead to, and reflect the brilliance of God.â€
Speaking further, Obi, who said as the Eid-el-Fitri celebration underscored love, friendship, brotherliness, charity and generosity, among other values, that Muslims were reminded of the virtues of harmonious co-existence in a diverse society like ours.â€

Concluding, Obi submitted: “As we share in the joy and fun of Eid-el-Fitri, let us remember that hard work and discipline are essential to safeguarding the future. Extend Hand of Fellowship to Others, Bauchi Gov Urges Muslims
Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi State has urged Muslim faithful across the state to extend their hands of fellowship to belivers of other faiths in order to promote peaceful and harmonious coexistence for the socio-economic development of the state.
The governor who spoke in his goodwill message to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration yesterday, said his administration was committed to peaceful and harmonious coexistence among the various groups and individuals in the state and appealed for tolerance and accommodation by various ethnic, religious as well as political groups in the state.
Faleke Urged Nigerians to Eschew Divisive Tendencies
The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Customs and deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last governorship election in Kogi State, James Abiodun Faleke, has urged Nigerians to eschew divisive tendencies and embrace love of one another while promoting issues that can unite the various entities in the country.
