By Emmanuel Addeh in Yenagoa

The Bayelsa State Governor, Mr Seriake Dickson, Tuesday lamented the continuous flaring of gas in the Niger Delta region, insisting that Nigeria must work towards ending the menace.

The governor, who spoke while inaugurating ‎the state committee for the utilisation of gas resources at the Government House in Yenagoa, said it was time for Bayelsa to maximise its gas potential.

Dickson maintained that Bayelsa remains the destination of every investor that is interested in gas-related business and urged the committee to put in place all the necessary framework to turn gas resources to power in the planned industrial park in the state.

A gas expert, Dr Patrick Ndiomu, is the chairman of the committee, Olice Kemenanabo is the secretary, while Patience Ranami Abah, Tam Alazigha and Cyril Akika are members. Other members are Braboke Stanley, Warebibo Soroh, ‎Ken Etete, Felix Bonny Ayah and Esau Andrew.

The governor noted that the continuous flaring of gas in the state had become “very hazardous to the people”, adding that the time had come to put an end to it.
