A former Governorship Aspirant of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 general elections in Abia State, Sir Friday Nwanozie Nwosu has appealed to the Inspector General of Police to give him protection from people he claimed were out to kill him.
He stated this in a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, titled ‘Threat to My Life & Application for Police Security’, dated 12th June, 2017.
Nwosu’s claimed in his letter to the IGP that he became a target of some powerful people in his political party (names withheld) in the state, following his decision to challenge the party’s choice of governorship candidate in court.
“I have been in court since January 2015 and even got to the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The Supreme Court has now referred the matter back to the Court of Appeal for determination of the case on merit.
Nwosu said as soon as the Supreme Court referred his case back to the Court of Appeal on the 22nd of May, 2017, some people, (names withheld) held a meeting in Abuja where the alleged “plans to assassinate me were perfected. And since then, they have been telling anybody who cared to listen that I won’t live to tell the story of this court matter I am pursuing.
“My life is in utmost danger. I am now seriously apprehensive of my safety and security in Abia State, the Court of Appeal in Owerri where it is being heard, the Federal Capital Territory- Abuja where I live and everywhere I go in the country. “Consequently, I humbly apply that you use your good offices to assign, detail three or four armed police officers to me, to protect me from being killed. Â
“My life is in real danger, and the above mentioned people are out to assassinate me as well as burn my house as they have attempted in the past so that my case will be dead too.
 “Sir, your cooperation and my rescue lie in God almighty and your good self,†he told the Inspector General.Â
