In an effort to assist widows in Sokoto State during Ramadan, the state government has commenced the disbursement of cash to over 1,000 widows.
The Commissioner for Social Welfare, Alhaji Sirajo Gatawa, stated this Friday, at the commencement of the disbursement in Kebbe Local Government Area of the state.
He said the gesture was part of government’s efforts to assist the less privileged during the Ramadan fast, adding that the move was aimed at assisting the widows to enable them cater for the orphans.
“The gesture is aimed at providing widows across the 86 districts with cash assistance and food items to enable them conduct their fast with ease during the Ramadan,” he explained.
He said each widow would receive a cash assistance of N10,000 in the state, adding that that this was in addition to rice, millet, sugar and clothing material provided for them.
