CAN Meets Saraki over Quit Notice to Igbos

By Laleye Dipo in Minna
Following the uproar generated by the three months quit notice issued to the Igbos living in the northern part of the country to vacate the region by the Arewa Youth Movement, the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the region has met with the Senate President Bukola Saraki over the issue and other matters.
The meeting also discussed the prevailing security situation in the region especially in southern Kaduna as well as alleged marginalisation of Christians by some governors in the north.
The meeting asked Senate President to intervene in the matters “before it gets out of hand”.
Niger State Chairman of CAN, Rev. Mathias Echioda, who confirmed the meeting while addressing newsmen in Minna on Tuesday said CAN in the 19 northern states took exception to the quit notice issued to the Igbos.
Though Echioda did not give further details of the meeting, he nonetheless asked the “elders in the north to put pressure on the Arewa youths to withdraw the ultimatum issued to the Igbos”.
