CDHR: Cabal That Annulled June 12 Presidential Election Still Controls Nigeria

The National Coordinator of the Committee for Defence of Human Right (CDHR), Taiwo Otitoloju, yesterday said it was disheartening that the cabal that had made the annulment of June 12, 1993, presidential election presumed to have been won by late Chief MKO Abiola  are possible still controlling the political space of the country.

Otitoloju who spoke with THISDAY in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the annulment of June 12, 1993, presidential election,  said: “The election was a watershed in the political history of Nigeria that no any person would ever forget.” “This is the election that Nigerians, irrespective of their political or religion affiliations, came out enmass and voted for Abiola.”

He said: “Even in the military barracks, they all came out too to vote for Abiola of the defunct the Social Democratic Party (SDP) against the presidential candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC), Alhaji Bashir Tofa, without any hindrance.

“Despite all these overwhelming support from Nigerians  in the election, former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), and members of the Armed Forces Ruling Council annulled the election.
