The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has appointed former deputy governor of Osun State and two-term senator, Dr. Iyiola Omisore, as a resource person in the accreditation visitation team to the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun in Delta State.

The appointment was contained in a letter signed by the Registrar of the Council, W. Kamila Maliki.
Omisore is required to cover the undergraduate programme of Mechanical Engineering at the institution. The team would be at the university for five days before turning in its reports.

Accreditation teams to institutions of higher learning traditionally consist of persons, who are well-grounded in the relevant fields of study.

Omisore has in the recent past been canvassing the need for government at all levels to embrace appropriate models of the public private partnership initiative.

In November last year, Omisore was a guest speaker at the Nigerian Society of Engineers Annual Conference and African Engineering Confab in Uyo. He presented a paper on the topic: “Nigeria’s Infrastructure Deficit: Beyond the Limitation of Finance in Public Private Partnership and Project Procurement Options.”

He was also the guest speaker at the Nigerian Engineering Conference 2017, an event organised on May 29 by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Students Chapter, of the Obafemi Awolowo University.

Omisore has authored several articles and literatures, and he has presented papers on engineering, infrastructure development, and public private partnerships in and outside the country.

He started his early professional life with the firm of Drake and Gordham while in the United Kingdom, in the early 80s, where he received on-the-job training and rose to top management positions. The same firm, Drake and Scull (Nig) Ltd, took him back home to Nigeria where he worked on major engineering projects.

It was while working at Drake and Scull that his project management skills were horned. He later established his own engineering firms – Mechelec Consultants, an engineering consultancy outfit, and Chrisore Engineering Limited, an electrical engineering firm.

In his pursuit of excellence, the senator, who is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and equally a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, England and Wales, has attended several courses in different high profile institutions.

He did the Advanced Budgeting Course at the George Town University, Washington DC, USA; the Appropriations and Public Finance Course at the ABS Academy, Athens, Greece; the Advanced Leadership Course at the University of Carolina; The Innovation and Leadership Course at the West London College; the Public Finance Course at the Harvard University; and the Aid Effectiveness and Donor Harmonisation Course at the Internationale Weiterbildung und Entwicklung gGmbH, Germany.

Omisore holds two engineering degrees and a postgraduate certificate from Brunel University, Uxbridge, United Kingdom. He also holds a Ph.D. in Infrastructure Finance from the International School of Management, Paris, France.
