House Condemns Arewa Youths, IPOB Calls on Ndigbo to Vacate North

By James Emejo in Abuja

The House of Representatives Thursday passed a resolution condemning in strong terms, the positions of the 16 northern youth groups under the umbrella of Arewa Youths and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), both calling on Ndigbo residents in the northern part of the country to return to their homeland.

The lower chamber, who called on all security agencies to be at alert in order to prevent unscrupulous elements from taking advantage of the unpatriotic pronouncements to avert disaster, also called on the federal government to wade into the issue on time to avoid the loss of lives and properties which the actualisation of the parties’ threat might bring about. It however, urged the warring parties to rescind their decisions.

The House resolution was consequent upon a motion brought under a matter of urgent public importance by Hon. Oghene Emma Egoh during plenary, which cited recent developments which had prompted the Biafra agitators to call for the return of the Igbos back home as well as the northern Arewa Youths which issued an ultimatum to the Igbos to vacate the north before October 1, 2017.

The House noted that the campaign by IPOB for the actualisation of the Biafra Republic had led to the shut down of major towns in the South-east on May 30.
