Bauchi Gov Pardons 170 Prison Inmates

The Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar has pardoned 170 prison inmates serving various prison terms in the state on the prerogative of mercy.

The state Commissioner for Justice Ibrahim Umar, who disclosed this Wednesday while giving the mid-term scorecard of the Ministry of Justice in Bauchi, said the advisory council on the prerogative of mercy commitee during the period under review visited all the prison formations across the state, where they scrutinised and physically verified the inmates and selected deserving candidates for scrutiny and recommendation to the governor.

According to him, “The council recommended a total of 170 inmates and the governor graciously approved the pardoning of the inmates.The pardoned inmates are now enjoying thier freedom with their families, friends and loved ones.”

In the area of civil litigation, the commissioner said that the department negotiates and mediates all civil cases ranging from monetary to land matters, adding that the department handled a total of 116 cases from January 2016 to date.

He disclosed that the ministry in its bid to support the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state, successfully channelled to the treasury the sum of N59,497,000 from vetting of agreement and sundries which covered the period from January 2016 to May 19th 2017.
