Ahead of the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been urged to ensure strict monitoring of primary elections of all the political parties in the country.
The state Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Chief Matthias Ameke, made the call, saying that with the internal crises in various parties, the efforts expended on the election might be a waste if parties are allowed to produce factional candidates.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra had always produced multiple candidates in its primary elections, leading to litigation after the exercise.
Ameke said that his party had already set machinery in motion to ensure a credible primary election that will select its candidate to compete with others in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Briefing journalists Tuesday at Umuchu, the home of one of the governorship aspirants of the party, Chief Godwin Ezeemo, Ameke said the party is founded on the principles of transparency and due process, and will ensure that those were brought to bear in the conduct of its primary election.
