The Sokoto State Government has distributed 9,000 bags of rice to the needy in the state.

The acting Chairman of the state Zakkat and Endowment Committee, Malam Lawal Maidoki, made this known at the distribution of zakkat collected by Dundaye district in the state, adding that each of the 86 districts in the state had already received 100 bags of rice for onward distribution to the needy in their areas.

Maidoki said this was in addition to the 100 sets of clothing materials and N500,000 distributed to each district in the state, adding that the gesture was aimed at assisting the needy to conduct their Ramadan fast with  relative ease.

“All these gestures are aimed at further alleviating the suffering of the less privileged persons across the 86 districts and make them have a sense of belonging during the Ramadan,” he explained.

He stressed the need for district committees to remain committed to the collection of the zakkat and endowment in their respective areas and advised the people to endeavour to give zakkat to the needy and warned them of the consequences of not donating charity to the poor.
