Gladiators Win BNB Mixed Netball Tourney

The Bringing Netball Back (BNB) Club hosted its 3rd edition of its Annual Charity Mixed Netball Tournament to raise awareness about netball and raise funds for Charity.

The participating teams of men and women were the Alphas, Blazing Bullets, Gladiators and So United, comprising of BNB members as well as invited male players. The prospect of a final match between the top two teams after the round robin – the Alphas and the Gladiators was exciting. The crowd cheered on the two teams as they battled with the Gladiators emerging victorious in a closely fought final match.

The Tournament was sponsored by Model Steel Industries Limited and supported by the Lagos State Sports Commission; both of which were present at the event in the persons of Mr. Kassem Ajami, Mr. Hassan Hammoud, the Chairman and Managing Director of Model Steel Industries, respectively and Mr. Deji Tinubu, Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission.

The versatility and athleticism required of netball players was evident and appreciated as players and spectators alike, unfamiliar with the sport, embraced it and looked forward to similar events in the near future.  The BNB Club, an advocate for women in sports, was founded in 2012 and continues to work tirelessly to promote netball as the team sport of choice for women in Lagos and across Nigeria, starting at grassroots.

The Club President, Bimbo Smith, has aspirations to drive netball in Nigeria until the eventual emergence of a National team.  She expressed her gratitude to the sponsors who made the event possible.
