About two years to the 2019 general election, presidential campaign posters of a former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, wednesday flooded some parts of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

THISDAY checks revealed that the campaign posters of Lamido was said to have been adorned the major areas of Ilorin as early as 6 a.m.

The posters with logo of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had conspicuously flooded areas such as Niger road, Post-Office, Offa road, New Yidi road and other strategic locations within the city.

The posters have inscription such as ‘Dr. Sule Lamido for 2019’ with photograph of the ex-governor beaming with smile.

The former governor made similar attempt to clinch presidential ticket of the PDP in the 2011 general election but was persuaded to drop the plan in order for the former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, to emerge.

However, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is currently prosecuting Lamido in connection with N10billion fraud.
The former governor, who is undergoing trial with his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha, allegedly used his children as fronts to award contracts to companies he had interest.

Over N10billion was allegedly wired into the accounts belonging to Lamido and his two sons from the Jigawa State government accounts from 2007 to 2015.

The EFCC was said to have traced the transfers to 10 companies where the former governor and sons are directors and signatories to the accounts.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them in a case presided over by Evelyn Anyadike.
