Akwa Ibom State is currently ranked the lowest in terms of crime index in the country with the state government providing over 70 per cent of the patrol vehicles including other logistics, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Don Awunah, has hinted.

To achieve this, the state police boss said the command is adopting four basic principles to combat crime namely: preventive techniques, response rate, detective rate and clearance rate.

According to him, for effective policing, the state, local governments, divisions and communities have been sectorised with each of the sector headed by a dedicated police officer.

Briefing newsmen in his office Wednesday, Awunah said there is also a solid crime preventive network and patrol system being implemented in the state including Quick Response Squad (QRS), Eagles Patrol system, Safe Golf, Aduman and Rapid Respond Unit (RRU).

He equally linked the success recorded in effective tackling of crimes in the state to the input and collaboration of all stakeholders, stressing that the issue bordering on crimes must not be politicised.
