The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill establishing the state Primary Healthcare Development Agency effective from May 30th, 2017.

The bill, which was sponsored by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon Onofiok Luke, and 12 other members, seeks to ensure equal delivery of affordable and quality healthcare services to people of the state, among other provisions in the law.

Reacting, Speaker Luke said the passage of the bill into law would go a long way in revolutionising primary healthcare delivery services in the state.
According to him, his motivation for the sponsorship of the bill stemmed from the need to support the state government’s efforts towards reviving the primary healthcare system for effective and quality service delivery.

He added that his drive to sponsor the bill arose from the need to revive the primary healthcare system in the state to be at par with what is obtainable in other states of the federation.
