Sokoto Digitise State Owned Media with N202 m

Sokoto State Government, Saturday said it has earmarked N202 million for the digitisation of state owned Rima Radio and Rima Television ahead of the deadline stipulated by the National Broadcasting Commission.

Speaking at a press briefing in Sokoto saturday, the state Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Abdulkadir Jeli Abubakar, said the government was determined to complete the digitisation of state-owned media before the deadline set by the NBC.

“I have got the assurance of Governor Aminu Tambuwal that all the requirements would be met before the expiry of the NBC digital switchover deadline.

” So, we are committed towards meeting the NBC deadline before June 30, 2017,”he said.

He stated that the Ministry of Information had already contacted the companies that would supply the radio and digital equipment for the two stations.

The Commissioner said it was in view of the need to improve the stations, that the State Media Corporation complex which houses the state television and radio was renovated at the cost of N30 million.

Abubakar further said the sum of N10 million was spent in the rehabilitation of the abandoned Broadcasting House at Tudunwada area of the state.

“The present administration has provided the whole complex with zinc roofing sheets. In fact, the project has been completed and the staff have moved back to the Broadcasting House without their equipment being damaged during rainy Sokoto

” In the same vein, a higher FM transmitter and accessories had been installed for Rima FM Station to meet the demand of the listeners and provide information and education to the segment of the society,” he added.
