Kaduna to Revive Free School Feeding Programme in June

By John Shiklam in Kaduna
The Kaduna State Government will revive its suspended school feeding programme for pupils in public primary schools‎ in June 2017.

The programme, which was introduced in January 2016, was suspended eight months after, gulping over N10 billion due to the challenges of funding.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Andrew Nok, while briefing journalists on the activities of his ministry to mark the second anniversary of Governor Nasir el-Rufai in office, explained that the programme was stopped because the federal government was not forthcoming with its counterpart funding of N6.8 billion.

He disclosed that the programme would continue in June 2017, following the part payment of the sum of N3.4 billion from the N6.8 billion counterpart funding being owed by the federal government.

He said: “Kaduna State started partial school feeding in January but stopped it in August. We have spent at least N10 billion on the school feeding for the eight months.”
