DG: New National Minimum Wage will Determine Increase in NYSC Members' Allowance

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier Sulaiman Zakari Kazaure, has said that an increase in the allowance of youth corps members in the country will be determined by the introduction of a new national minimum wage for workers.
“The NYSC allowance is determined by the national minimum wage. We are waiting on the government to take a decision on the new wage structure before we know what to do,” he said.
Kazaure made the remark in Minna, the Niger State capital, on Thursday while fielding questions from newsmen after the swearing-in of Batch A stream 1 of the 2017 corps members deployed in Niger State for their service year.
He said the scheme was aware that the allowance received by corps members was meagre in the face of the poor economic situation which was why state governments were urged to augment the stipend with N5,000 monthly for each youth corps member.
He regretted that Niger State had not implemented the policy thereby subjecting the corps members to economic hardship.
