Redeemer School Maryland Wins British Council Awards

A student of Redeemer’s International Secondary School, Eden Place, Maryland, Ayomikun Oluwafisayo Ayodeji, has won the prizes for the top in Nigeria for November 2015 IGCSE in Biology, Geography and Information and Communication Technology at the inaugural edition of the British Council Recognition and Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards.

The award which held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lagos recently was designed to recognise outstanding Cambridge Learners in 2015/2016 and the partner schools that have exemplified Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and Child Protection policies.

Ayomikun was born on July 11, 1999 to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Ayodeji.
He had his primary education at St. Gloria’s School, Maryland, Ikeja, Lagos and his secondary school education at Redeemer’s International Secondary School, Eden Place, Maryland.

Ayomikun represented the school severally in various competitions and came out winning laurels.
He came first in the Math decathlon in 2015 after a tie breaker with a university student.
He also led the school science team to the Schlumberger National Seed Competition through the various stages in Port Harcourt to the finals in Lagos state.

The winning invention was TRISS; a termicide made from cashew shells.
He defended the project and came first in Nigeria and was the best graduating student in 2016.
He also won the worthy ambassador award 2016 of Redeemer’s International Secondary School, Eden Place, Maryland.
He won a United World Scholarship and is currently at the United World College, Italy.

He was also awarded the student with the best result in WASSCE (2016) in Nigeria and 2nd in West Africa by the West African Examinations Council. He was one of the volunteer teachers of the school charity group to the children of the less privileged school – The Gem School, Idiaraba.

Ayomikun, currently a student of the United World College of the Adriatic in Italy on full scholarship in the May/ June 2016 WASSCE, with examination number 4251426010, made the following grades: Economics – A1, Civic Education – A1, Tourism – A1, English Language – A1, Further Mathematics – A1, Biology – A1, Chemistry – A1 and Physics – A1.
The Principal, Mrs Feyisara Osinupebi said the school opted for the Cambridge examination for a more rounded curriculum – that adds the application of knowledge to the robust Nigerian curriculum.

“Hopefully, the application of knowledge skill will make Nigerian learners great inventors in future,” she said.
She added that the school is committed to not only excellent results from all students but on being able to challenge them to apply themselves, stressing that this can be achieved by a well-rounded education.
