Two kidnappers have been killed and one arrested by men of the Anambra State police command.

The Command paraded the kidnap suspect alongside bodies of his two dead colleagues in Awka, yesterday.

The police said the dead criminals were clamped down by the men of Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, following a swoop on them in their kidnap den in one of the forests in Urum community in Awka North local government area of the state.

THISDAY gathered that another suspect, a motorcyclist responsible for collection of ransom for the group was also arrested with a locally made pistol, while a kidnap victim who was recently taken by the group was rescued unhurt during the operation.

Parading the suspect alongside the bodies of the dead ones, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sam Okaula, disclosed that the suspected kidnappers had boasted of ridiculing the determination of the police in making Anambra the safest state.

He said they boldly invaded a popular club in Awka, the state capital, where they kidnapped the Manager, with demand of N50m as ransom.

“These boys stormed the popular Lounge 24 Night Club and kidnapped the manager, Chidi Ojukwu aka Odaa Opuo.

“The ever ready security operatives were immediately alerted and trailed the kidnap suspects to a lonely area in Urum where they engaged in a shoot out, killing two of the suspects while the third ran into the bush seriously injured, while the victim was rescued unhurt.

“This is the second attempt by these men of the underworld to infiltrate the very fortified security network initiated by Governor Obiano. The two attempts, first being that of Ifeanyichukwu Motors, were unsuccessful leading to death of the suspects” he stated.

Assuring of the arrests of other gang members presently at large as information has been given on where they kept their arms, Okaula reiterated the warning on criminal elements to exit the state as remains too hot for them and their nefarious activities.
