Deputy Speaker Cautions against Rumoured Attempt by Military to Thwart Democracy

By James Emejo in Abuja

The Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Yussuff Lasun, Monday cautioned against any attempt by the military to thwart the country’s democratic process.

Citing recent developments whereby the military was rumoured to be flirting with politicians with a view to possibly overthrow the present democratic administration, he argued that democracy at its worst is still the best form of government.

He said after 17 years of uninterrupted democratic practice in the country, it would be difficult for the military to attempt to interrupt the system again.

Lasun was speaking at the opening of a one-day public hearing on the proposed further amendments to the electoral act 2010 (as amended).
