Nestlé Nigeria has embarked on a nutrition education campaign with various programmes to help individuals and families, parents and children live healthier.
In a statement made available to THISDAY over the weekend, Nestlé stated that “it will continue to inspire people to lead healthier lives, raising awareness and deeper understanding about nutrition, and promoting healthy cooking, eating and lifestyles through education programmes on various channels in line with its conviction that healthier lives are happier lives.â€
Some of the programmes included ‘Sound of Nutrition’, a radio programme, featuring a professional nutritionist, which delivers nutrition and wellness tips to listeners across Lagos, Enugu and Abuja. Topics covered included portion sizes, balanced diet and how to eat for value. There are also tips on how to plan meals on budget to ensure that the family is eating right.
Nestlé Nigeria also partnered the Culinary Academy for the African Young Chefs Competition (AFCC), which was held in Lagos recently.
Speaking on the partnership, the Managing Director and CEO of Nestlé Nigeria, Mr. Mauricio Alarcon said: “The programme was an avenue to educate and inspire the youth to make the right nutrition choices to ensure healthier and happier lives’’
“Programmes like the African Young Chefs Competition also help the youth learn life skills like discipline, teamwork and perseverance. These are qualities that will make them leaders in every area of their lives. Therefore, we continue to invest in various youth programmes focussed on developing tomorrow’s leaders,†said Alarcon.
