Girl, 14, Arrested in Ondo for Attempted Poisoning

The police in Ondo State have arrested a 14-year-old house maid, Mary, for allegedly attempted to poison the food of her mistress’s husband at Adetomowo Street,  Ondo City.

The teenager was alleged to have committed the offence when her mistress, Mrs. Sikirat Akinlosotu, asked her to prepare bean meal for the family.

After cooking the beans, the girl,  who is said to be a primary four pupil in a public primary school, was alleged to have added rat poison into the portion of food served her mistress husband.

The husband, Alhaji Nasiru Akinlosotu, 63,  was said to have detected the act through the odour that oozed out when he was about to put the food in his mouth.

The girl was said to have confessed to the act when the man raised an alarm.

According to the man,  the girl said she decided to poison the man’s portion of food for reprimanding her earlier for an offence.

The man’s wife was said to have reported the matter to the police when she was told by her husband.

The girl was seen with the police at Yaba Police Station just as the police questioned the master and her husband.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO)  at Yaba Division was not around when journalist called as she was said to be outside the town for another engagement.

However, a senior police officer said the signal had been sent to the appropriate quarters at the state command headquarters for an action.
