Anambra 2017: Group Shops for Obiano's Replacement

Opposition to the second term bid of Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano appeared to have begun to be gathering momentum within the Anambra North Senatorial district where the governor is from as prominent politicians from the senato- rial district have begun to strategise on how to produce replacement for the governor from the zone. The politicians who converged on the St. Andrew Youths Hall, Onitsha on Thursday, unanimously condemned the alleged under per- formance of the incumbent governor adding that the zone had more competent candidates who would do better when elected. In the run up to the November Governorship election in the state, several politicians from across the other two senatorial zones of the state have signified intention to contest the election.

The candidates cut across all the prominent parties including ruling All Progressive Party (APGA), All Progressives Party (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) among others. At the meeting which was chaired by Chief Sylvanus Ohaemesi some of the aspirants eyeing the Awka Government House seized the opportunity to make public there governorship ambition. Among them were a former Secretary to the State Government, Ambassador Oseloka Obaze, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, Chief Chike Obidigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Akaneme among others. In his opening remarks, Chief Ohaemesi noted that the ANUF was formed in April 2016 and comprised of twenty concerned citizens from Anambra North senatorial zone who were worried over the imbal- ance in elections and governance in the state. He also commended a former governor of the state, Mr. Peter Obi ensuring that Anambra North Senatorial Zone got a short at the government house He also stated that the group had put in place the structure to ensure that the zone retain the governorship seat come November but with a different candidate order than the incumbent governor even as he added that he was aware of complaints of poor performance trailing the incumbent.

“ANUF was founded in April 2016 based on equity and fairness and we have put in place a structure that will ensure that Anambra Senatorial Zone is not booted out of power in November on account of poor performance by the incumbent. We believe the zone has several competent and capable politicians and should be allowed to field a different candidate to complete the second term of the two terms
