Dalung Confirms for Akwa Ibom Youth Festival

Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, has assured the organisers of the Akwa Ibom State Youth Sports Festival starting tomorrow in Uyo of his presence at the event.
An aide of the Plateau politician confirmed yesterday that the minister is to fly into Uyo from the Kaduna Airport for the opening ceremony of the youth fiesta.

“You can be rest assured that anything that has to do with the development of sports especially at the grassroots level, the Honourable Minister will be there to give his full support,” announced the media aide to Dalung.

The minister is to be received in audience by the Executive Governor of the state, Udom Emmanuel.
According to the itinerary of the visit released yesterday, after the courtesy call on the governor, the minister will be taken round sports Infrastructure in the state, especially the Model Sports Centre at West Itam Secondary School.

Dalung will also take another look at the home of the Super Eagles, the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, one of the best in the world.

Yesterday, the draw ceremony of the festival was held amid pomp and pageantry with the Deputy Governor of the state, Moses Ekpo, picking Ikot Abasi and Uyo as the two local governments that will kick off the football event during the opening ceremony on Wednesday.

Attended by select secondary schools in the state, members of the state house of assembly, commissioners, permanent secretaries, local government chieftains and top sports stars including Enefiok Udo-Obong and top Nollywood star, ‘Okon Lagos’.

The deputy governor was grateful to Gov Emmanuel for the initiative that was going to revolutionise school sports not only in the state but the country at large.

He commended the ministries of sports and education for the initiative and asked the students take advantage of the platform made available to them.

The festival has attracted the participation of all the 31 local governments in the state with 15 sports in primary schools and 20 in secondary schools. It is scheduled to run for one week.
