Road Sector Reform: NSE Cautions Members against Losing Benefits to Foreign Firms

By Chineme Okafor in Abuja
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has asked its members across the country to brace up for the economic opportunities that would come with the current attempts by the government to reform the country’s road and transport sectors.
It also warned that local engineering firms and persons who fail to comprehensively upgrade their engineering skills, set in anticipation of this may lose the benefits of the reform to their foreign counterparts.
The Chairman of the Board of Fellows of NSE, Chris Okoye, said this at the investiture of Obiekwe Gabriel Anaduaka, as the new chairman of its affiliate member institute — the Institution Highway and Transportation Engineers (NIHTE) — at the weekend in Abuja.
Okoye stated that there were various significant road and transport bills currently before the National Assembly, and which when passed into law, would effectively open up the country’s transport and road sectors for private investment and management.
