DHQ Describes Amnesty International's Allegations on Killings as Spurious Fabrication

By Paul Obi

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has tackled Amnesty International (AI) over a recent report by the organisation alleging that the Nigerian military killed about 177 pro-Biafran agitators and 240 persons, including children in Borno State, North-east Nigeria.

Director of Defence Information, Brig Gen Rabe Abubakar, said on Wednesday in Abuja that the report was another premeditated attempt by AI to bring disrepute to the Nigerian military.

Abubakar explained that “the report recently published by the Amnesty International (AI) alleging death of 240 people including babies in Borno and 177 pro-Biafran agitators, is yet another in its series of spurious fabrications aimed at tarnishing the good image of the Nigerian military.

“Without mincing words, the allegations contained in the said report are not only inconceivable but has no place in the Nigerian military.”
