US Ambassador Admonishes Nigerians to Bury Differences for Unity

By Ibrahim Shuaibu in Kano
United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington on Friday in Kano admonished Nigerians to bury their differences and unite for the stability and betterment of the country, Africa and the world.
According to him, ”I urge you every day to think about the unity of the whole country and in the way I have seen, you seek to  advance this notion that if there is no justice for all, until there is no justice for everyone.”

Symington, who made the remark during his familiarisation visit to the Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, insisted that Nigeria remained a great country, adding that its survival was also the survival of America.
”The strength of every nation is not in just ideas or laws but in men and women, each of us are like vessels, with a change to take in all the lesson we can.
”I also want to suggest to you that by learning, you and your whole nation and our world can live better. I think about living in order to have the opportunity to learn.
”There is no fairness for all, until  there is fairness for everyone. And it is how we treat each other that we can literally change the world.
“We are together to have the opportunity to live better forever. The second point I made is this, the strength of every nation, especially every democracy is not just in its ideas,  it is not even just in its laws. It is in the women, the men, the girls and the boys, who carry those ideas in them.”

Speaking also, the Provost of the institution, Professor Garba Shehu, said, the visit of the US Ambassador provided two excellent opportunities for the staff and students to interact on issues bordering on contemporary significance relating to development of higher education in the country.
