Gunmen Abduct Delta N.U.T. Treasurer

The worrisome spate of kidnapping in Delta State reared its ugly head yet again with the abduction of the Treasurer of the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr. Titus Okotie.

Okotie was on Friday morning reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen while traveling on the Asaba-Ughelli expressway.

The victim, who is said to be aspiring for the chairmanship position of the state NUT in the union’s election scheduled for July this year, was traveling from Asaba to Ughelli with his daughter when the kidnappers struck at the Kwale/Ozoro axis of the road.

The gun-wielding assailants reportedly forced Okotie out of his vehicle into their waiting car and sped off, abandoning the NUT official’s car with his shocked daughter on the roadside.

Although, the state police command spokesman confirmed the incident to newsmen when contacted, the motive of the kidnappers was unknown at the time of filing this report.

It could not be ascertained too if Mr. Okotie’s abductors had made any demand as they had reportedly not established contact with their victim’s family.

However, the State police spokesman, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, confirmed the incident, saying police had commenced a manhunt for the criminals.
