Lawal Calls for Release of Ekiti's Allocation

By Victor Ogunje in Ado Ekiti
A former deputy governor of Ekiti State and governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Sikiru Tae Lawal, on Monday called for the immediate release of the state’s January allocation allegedly withheld by the federal government.
Lawal said the Supreme Court in the case of Lagos State vs FG on the contentious withholding of the local governments’ allocations by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo had made an explicit verdict that the states are federating units with full autonomy and that the federal government has no power whatsoever to deny them of their statutory benefits.
In a chat with journalists in Ado Ekiti, Lawal lampooned the federal government for what he described as its “rascally behaviour” and called for the immediate reversal of the action to prevent anarchy in the system.
