In an effort to look inwards in its revenue drive, the Niger State government has set up a committee to boost its economy in the Shea butter tree business.
The state Commissioner for Investments, Hajia Ramotu Mohammed Yardua, told newsmen in Minna at the weekend that a special task force to see to the protection of the Shea butter tree had been set up as the government moves to turn the seeds from the tree into goldmine.
Hajia Yaardua said government had realised that the commercial value of each shea butter tree in the international market was $2,000, saying the state which had 60 per cent of the global number of Shea butter trees was determined to take advantage of the situation.
