Huawei Technologies Donates Food Items to IDPs

The Management of Huawei Technologies Company, at the weekend handed over food and relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), in the North-east, through the Ministry of Interior.

Making the donation through the Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahaman Dambazau, the Deputy Managing Director of Huawei, Mr. Martin Zhong, said the Chines company though has a global outlook with a Nigerian spirit would stretch her hand of friendship to Nigeria in her time of need.

The food items, according to him, included: 2300 bags of rice, 200 cartons of spaghetti, 200 cartons, 50 pieces of oil, 200 cartons of macronic rice and other relief items.

He said: “We see that many people are displaced in North-east, even there is news that people are dead caused by starvation and poor health conditions, as a company who has been doing business for more than 15 years, would like to extend our deep commitment to Nigeria by standing by her in her time of need.”

In a remark, the minister while acknowledging the gesture, urged other companies operating in the country to donate health, education and relief materials to cushion the challenges being faced by the over 2 million IDPs in the country.

Dambazau, however said federal government, Cameroun and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCRs), will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the protection of over 65, 000 Nigerian refugees in Cameroun.

According to him, the tripartite arrangement between Nigeria, Cameroun and UNCHR is to ensure that Nigeria refugees still resident in neighbouring countries are not maltreated or unduly treated, stressing that government is making effort for the return of the 65,000 refugees in that country.

While acknowledging Huawei for their humanitarian gesture towards the people of Nigeria, he called on companies doing business in the country to support government through provision of education and relief to the over 2 million internally displaced persons in different parts of the country.

He said: “Government through the ministry of interior is grateful to Huawei Technologies for the donation of the food and relief materials to the vulnerable in the country, displaced and forced out of their homes by the Boko Haram insurgency.”

The gesture, the minister said will assist in solving challenges at the camps, stressing that government is concerned about the conditions of the IDPs and is therefore doing all it can can to provide solution. END
