APC Hails Nnamani's Emergence as S/East Party Leader

By Christopher Isiguzo in Enugu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has described the emergence of the former Senate President, Ken Nnamani as the party’s leader in the south east as a major boost for the party in the build up to the 2019 general elections and therefore dismissed the opposition to his leadership by the party’s National Auditor, George Moghalu as “totally misplaced”.

The party’s Vice chairman, Chief Anike Nwoga told newsmen that the appointment of Nnamani as the leader by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state during the party’s South East Stakeholders’ meeting heldat Owerri last weekend was unanimously endorsed as most appropriate. “Okorocha who was the leader if the party in the zone being the only governor we have at the moment handed over the party’s leadership position to Nnamani without consulting anybody, nit even the former senate president.

That action was in the best interest of the party. Some people came out of the meeting and started opposing the appointment but I want to state here that Nnamani is eminently qualified to lead the party in the zone. “Having held the position of the Sehate Presidency, the number three citizen of Nigeria at the time, nobody is more qualified to lead the party than him. By that singular act, Okorocha showed that he is a wise and intelligent man and he has done a great thing for APC. Nnamani is a great son of Igbo land and indeed Nigeria,” he said.

Nwoga noted that since the former senate president joined the ruling party, notable political leaders in the zone had followed his footsteps by registering with the party along with their numerous followers, adding that from emerging developments, the party would make appreciable impact in the next general election in the south east zone.

He further explained that the presence of Nnamani and other notable politicians from the zone in the APC would go a long way in giving Ndigbo a sense of belonging in the ruling party at the federal level. “You can be in a party for 10 years without making ahy contribution, while somebody that just joined today will make the difference.

Nnamani, within the short period he joined the party has made enormous difference in the party. We’ve accepted him as our leader. The party will now enjoy the quality leadership which has been lacking,” he said. While noting that Moghalu was entitled to his opinion by expressing his opposition to Nnamani’s choice as party leader less than ine month after joining the party, Nwoga also dismissed the biess in some quarters that his emergence would breed disaffection among party members who had remained committed from the party’s formative period till date.
