Jinmi Abduls: I Grew Up Amidst Musical  Instruments

Jinmi Abduls is one of a growing  army of singers in Nigeria. In this chat with Tosin Clegg, he talks about his music, career

Who is Jinmi Abduls?

I am Folarin Oluwafeyijinmi Abdulsalami,  a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. I’m currently studying International law at Babcock University.

When did music start for you?

I started music in 2008. From childhood, I grew up in the midst of many musical instruments and I always enjoyed learning and playing with them. I was about 10,  at the time my elder brother had just started making beats and recording on his computer, so he helped. That was how my journey started.

Tell us about the kind of music you do?

I make modernised highlife. I specialise in love songs and though every now and then, I experiment with other genres. That’s what I prefer and love to make;  it’s getting great attention and building me a large fan base. It’s unique music. I love to tell stories with my music.

Who inspires your music and who would you love to work with?

My music is self-inspired and my style is one that I created and have developed for a few years; it’s still developing in fact. I’d love to work with Cobhams, Olamide,  Davido, Wizkid and many others.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself huge, somewhere at the top of the industry by God’s special grace. I’m putting in the work and I’m sure He’ll bless it.
