The Director General of the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Prof. Garba Dahuwa Azare, has expressed the institute’s determination to boost the quality of teachers so as to improve the standard of education in the country.

He assured all stakeholders that the institute is always ready and willing to introduce any programme designed to upgrade teachers to be able to tackle the challenges they face in their daily classroom professional practices.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2016 nationwide capacity building workshop for primary school teachers under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) project, Azare called on state governments to take advantage of the training opportunities at the institute to upgrade the skills of their teachers.

Represented by the Director, Field Operations and Students Services Department, Dr. Dele Yaya, he said the NTI is the only distance learning institution dedicated to teacher training in the country and has made great strides in the training of secondary and primary school teachers.

While calling on state governments to prioritise the training of teachers so as to improve the standard of education, he urged the participants to use the experience acquired to impart knowledge to their students.
A total of 16,350 primary school teachers across the country were re-trained in 109 training centres for six days.
