Benue Correspondent Chapel Donates Food Items to Orphanages

George Okoh in Makurdi
The correspondent chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State chapter yesterday donated items to orphanage homes as part of activities marking its week.
The items donated at the homes, the State Rehabilitation Board at  Apir and Gidan Bege located on Gboko road, Makurdi included bags of rice, Indomie, toiletries, vegetable oil, among others.

While donating the materials at Gidan Bege, Vice chairman of the central planning committee, Mr. Babajide Johnson, explained that the chapel decided to identify with the needy at this period when the world is commemorating the birth of Christ.

He urged well to do individuals as well as corporate organisations to render assistance to those in need, maintaining that society would be better if they are well catered for.
At the state rehabilitation board which caters for persons with vulnerability, the Executive Secretary Mrs. Hembadoon Gum, who conducted members round the premise, lamented over the neglect of the place by government.

She regretted that most of the facilities especially in Aliade, Gwer Local Government Area and Ohimini Local Government Area have been vandalised by members of the host communities.
“There is also, serious case of congestion in the rehabilitation homes leading to outbreak of disease which was promptly tackled. It is unfortunate that the society is aware that this place exists but people do not come to our aid. For you to come and donate these items, I am overwhelmed. I was even thinking of how to feed the children when they come back from holidays in January. This donation is timely,” Gum said.
