Momoh Tasks Obaseki on Sports Revival in Edo

Sponsor of the South-south Champion of Champions Tournament, Frank Momoh, has appealed to new Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to consider sports a priority by reviving the sector.

The old Bendel State that metamorphosed into Edo and Delta states used to be the hub of sports in the country through structures put in place by the Samuel Ogbemudia era in the state.

But Momoh, who has been part of the drive to return Edo sports to reckoning through his sponsorship of the annual Edo FA Cup, Schools Sports and clinics, among others, wants Obaseki to return the good times to Ogbe Stadium.

“It is heartwarming to note that Governor Obaseki has shown that he will not relegate sports to the background. Sport is life and life is sports so I expect him to recognise that the sector can provide jobs for Edo youths.

“The governor was at the final of the Edo FA Cup this year and we believe it is not by chance that he is coming in this time when we have dynamic administrators like the Frank Ilaboya-led FA board leading our sports.

“One thing we want from him is the revival of Bendel Insurance because so much revolves around the team,” pleaded Momoh who is to be honoured as the Outstanding Sports Personality of the Year Award at the Edo FA awards billed for Benin this weekend.
He praised the Frank Ilaboya led Edo FA for the initiative.

“It is laudable because a pat on the back helps to encourage more efforts.
“I am happy that this current board started the awards and will sustain it as a way of encouraging people to do their best,” he concluded.
