Nigeria Partakes in Peace Flow with “Symposium on the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW)”

-Nigeria attempts to seize the hands-on peace with economic stability

Vibrant change from economic achievement, the international society shows support and optimism prevails in the country of Nigeria. But the fear from violence including terrorist attacks challenges people’s efforts for the bright future. Collective actions to counter the force of threat to human life are highly demanded in the name of peace.

Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) hosted the “Symposium on the DPCW” last November 26th at Lagos University Law auditorium. It was an event for the purpose of promoting peace activities in the Nigerian communities through awareness raising of the DPCW.

Drafted for the foundation of international law for peace and human rights development, the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) addresses practical approaches of global peacebuilding and conflict resolution. The 10 articles and 38 clauses include disarmament, culture of peace, religious/ethnic freedom, and peaceful settlement of disputes. In promoting international cooperation, advocacy forums and events in support of the declaration have been held worldwide including the Philippines, France, Australia, Georgia, and so on.

In the first session, Dr. Babatunde Oni, the law professor of Lagos University, introduced the peace initiatives of HWPL – the WARP office for inter-religious communication and implementation of international law for peace, accompanied by global advocacy movement in many cities and communities.

In the second session, Mr. Odukoya, head of PLEll in ECOSOC, Prof. Yinka Owoeye and 4 experts in peace activities and education field discussed practical ways to applying peace education in the Nigerian community as an action plan of the Article 10 of the DPCW – spreading a culture of peace.

When Dr. Babatunde Adetunji Oni, professor of law in Lagos University, participated a global summit held by HWPL called the World Alliance of Religions Peace (WARP) Summit, he said, “HWPL’s effort in achieving global peace and the commitments of HWPL chairman Man Hee Lee could enable HWPL to introduce the DPCW for being adopted by the UN. The gathering of experts on international law, religious leaders and lovers of peace all over is a testimony that global peace is possible as expressed at the summit. And I concluded by encouraging people to join hands with HWPL to achieve peace.”

HWPL, a global peace organization under the UN Department of Public Information, initiated a worldwide advocacy movement for international law based on the DPCW. Currently, over 700,000 citizens around the world wrote their signatures in support of the declaration to be developed into a legal foundation.
