20,000 Policemen to Monitor Rivers Rerun

The Inspector General Police (IGP) Mr. Ibrahim Idris yesterday disclosed that 20,000 policemen will be deployed to monitor the next week re-run election in Rivers State.

Idris also said 20 gunboat and three helicopters will also be included to ensure the hitch-free conduct of the election in the state.

Addressing officers in Kano on Saturday at Bompai Police Headquarters, Idris said: ‘’We are determined to maintained the standard recorded during the recent election in Ondo state”.

He assured that the election is going to be peaceful and orderly, adding that police is always ready to protect lives and properties.

The Inspector General Police also received 25 patrol vehicles procured by Kano state government to support the police activities in the state.

According to him, kidnappers, armed robbers and other people that engaged in criminalities lived within the communities. He seeks the support of all to bring an end to the challenge in the communities. “We are facing a lot of challenges but we have to give out ourselves to the community.

“Every police men must declare his assets. Police must avoid collecting devices from the community because avoiding it will restore police integrity. I want you to imbibe the issue of code of conduct. I warned you not to be involves into political activities because police is for everyone.

According to him “The Change begins with me campaign came on board when there were myriad of problems, militating against the corporate existence, hence the need for attitudinal changes in various ways of live.”
