Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar, boss of AA Oil Limited was regarded as one of the biggest and most powerful men in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. His profile came to the fore when he came out to claim the ownership of an imposing edifice that sits majestically on Gana Street, adjacent Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Maitama District of Abuja. Prior to that, the ownership of the building was shrouded in mystery.
But since the mystery surrounding the ownership was resolved, many have also wondered where the money for such majestic building came from. But in response to that question, the Kogi State billionaire has shown to his traducers that he is actually a businessman that has fully paid his dues in the Nigerian business climate. The businessman also denied the rumour that he was indeed fronting for some government officials and state governors.
Also, the successful businessman claimed that he had been in the limelight long before he acquired the land on which the architectural masterpiece was built. It was also gathered that the land cost over a billion naira in 2005. Aside from this, he also reportedly made good fortunes from property business and building technology. Aliyu’s business empire includes oil and gas, real estate, telecommunications and many others.
However, it should be noted that the man has for some time now gone underground. It was gathered that he ran into troubled waters when the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria , AMCOM seized his property, including the imposing mansion and many other choice properties scattered around Abuja, after an Abuja High Court ruling against him. The debt was part of the non-performing loans that AMCON bought over from ailing financial institutions and other businesses.
Since then, nobody seems to know anything about his whereabouts. He has recoiled back into his cocoon and has not been sighted in any public or social function in Abuja and its environs.
