Council of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) has disclosed that the institute is planning to send a bill to the National Assembly for the proclamation of a day to be declared as Management Day.

President and Chairman of the council, Prof. Munzali Jibril, who spoke with journalists in Jos during his tour of North Central zone, said that the institute is proposing November 19 to be set aside every year to celebrate Management Day.

According to him, the day is being proposed because it is the birthday of Professor Peter Drucker, the man considered to be the father of management.

He added that since there are World Malaria Day, World Water Day, and so on, there was nothing wrong in setting aside a day to celebrate professional managers.

Jibril said that the institute will continue to improve the skills of its members through the mandatory continuing professional examination programme (MCPEP) and other human capital development programmes.

He further stated that the institute is also continuing with its subsisting memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, the National Defence College as well as the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration, Lagos in the area of professional management training.

He said that these programmes were being pursued alongside other regular ones of the institute such as distinguished management lecture, women in management and leadership conference and Management Day.
